Local Host of the 49th SSA Conference

Dr. Martin Švantner

 Martin Švantner, PhD holds degrees in political science, philosophy, semiotics, and anthropology. His primary research interests include general semiotics, history of semiotics, semiotically-influenced rhetorical theory, semiotics of music, cognitive semiotics, contemporary social theory and philosophy, and the work of C.S. Peirce. He serves as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Humanities at Charles University and as a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of West Bohemia. He previously worked as a researcher at the Center for the History and Philosophy of Science and at the Institute of Political Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University, He has taught and conducted research at Oslo Metropolitan University, the University of Bologna, Toronto Metropolitan University, and the Institute for Studies in Pragmaticism at Texas Tech University, USA. Dr. Švantner has published approximately thirty international studies and participated in numerous international semiotic conferences. In his leisure time, he is an active jazz musician.
